Who Are We?
UBI Aeronautics Team - UBIAT is a newly established student team from Universidade da Beira Interior, Portugal, founded in January 2023.
This team aims to promote aeronautics within the Portuguese academic community and the general public by participating in international events such as the Air Cargo Challenge (ACC) with our handcrafted UAVs.
All team members are committed to working diligently to ensure our planes achieve their highest potential, striving to innovate and enhance the aeronautical sector with ingenious new concepts applied to our UAVs.
What is ACC?
The Air Cargo Challenge is an international competition held biennially, primarily aimed at students in the fields of aeronautical and aerospace engineering. The main goal is to design, construct, and pilot a radio-controlled aircraft capable of carrying the maximum payload and achieving the highest possible speed. The competition is organized by the team that won the previous edition.
What is DBF?
The Design/Build/Fly (DBF) Competition is an annual event organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), where university teams design, build, and fly an electric, radio-controlled aircraft. Since 1996, it has provided students with hands-on experience in engineering, emphasizing innovation, teamwork, and cost-effective design to meet annually updated mission objectives.
Design
Every project commences with an idea aimed at solving a problem or completing a task. This idea may be a preliminary concept or an entire solution. This constitutes the initiation of a project.
Build
Before any of our projects can take flight, they must be constructed. This requires overcoming all challenges associated with this task. To achieve this, we need both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Fly
The final and arguably most fulfilling step is to bring the project to fruition. This phase allows us to assess the effectiveness of our approach and determine if the mission has been accomplished. Each success serves as motivation to continue our efforts.
